MARICOPA, Kern County — October 25, 2026. Maricopa residents have two municipal dates coming up this week: a City Council meeting listed for Tuesday, October 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a regular bulky waste collection day Wednesday, October 28. Both appear on the City of Maricopa, California’s official homepage. This is Maricopa in Kern County, not the much larger Arizona city that shares its name.

Where does the local City Council meet?

Maricopa’s city government page says the Council normally meets on the second and fourth Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Maricopa Gusher Hall, 271 California Street, Maricopa, CA 93252. Its 2026 agenda archive lists a regular October 27 agenda and a separate October 27 agenda adjourned from the October 13 meeting. Residents should consult both posted packets, rather than assume they concern the same items or that a proposal has already passed.

Official city records are available through the City Clerk, and materials relating to open-session items can be reviewed at City Hall, 400 California Street. The town asks people seeking disability-related meeting accommodations to contact the City Clerk ahead of the meeting. The city lists its main contact number as (661) 769-8279.

Wednesday, October 28: bulky items

The official city calendar says Bulky Waste Day falls on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Its notice directs residents to place bulky unwanted household items next to their trash can and expressly states no hazardous waste. This is not a license to leave chemicals, batteries or other regulated waste curbside. If in doubt about an appliance, mattress, quantity limit or pickup coverage, check with City Hall or the waste service provider before setting it out.

Recurring food distribution options

Maricopa’s calendar also advertises a senior food distribution on the third Monday of the month, normally beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Gusher Hall, and a separate CAPK food distribution on the third Tuesday, 3–5 p.m., at VFW Post, 600 Hazelton Street. These are distinct services with potentially different eligibility, supplies and enrollment arrangements.

The homepage’s senior listing displays an unusually late 11:30 p.m. end time. Since that is not independently verified, we do not treat it as an actual eleven-plus-hour distribution. Contact the organizer or city to confirm the end time and availability before traveling. The next scheduled third-Monday and third-Tuesday distributions fall in November, not during the current week.

Stay informed

The city’s meeting and event calendars are useful for dates, but current service delivery and decisions should be verified through official notices. Maricopa News invites residents to report cancellations, changes and practical service updates with verifiable documentation.
